Traditional Sivananda Yoga comes to Hawkes Bay! Suitable for beginners, this is a three-class course where we will build our practice each time, taught by the lovely Pippi Jane.
Welcome to Sivananda, a classical concept of traditional hatha
allowing us to be Human-Beings as opposed to Human-Doings.
WHEN: Wednesday 18th September, Wednesday 25th September and Wednesday 2nd October, 5.30pm-7.00pm
WHERE: Wellness Sanctuary, 32a Main St, Hospital Hill, Napier.
BOOKINGS: Booking your spot is required. Please email Sarah: hello@wellnesssanctuary.co.nz to book. Contribution is $55 for the whole course, made payable in advance to: Wellness Sanctuary 12-3144-0257538-00 with Siva course and your name as references.
CLASS STRUCTURE:
1. SAVASANA, SOUND, MANTRA and PRANAYAMA.
Starting with simple and total surrender in savasana, arriving on your mat, into your body and setting up your sacred space for your practice and self-realization.
During this time soft chanting will be facilitated by Pippi in order for
students to deepen and connect to the powerful healing vibrations of
the sounds within the mantra.
We will then move into our pranayama; cleansing the body and
allowing our life-force energy to cultivate for a blissful and beneficial
practice.
2. WARM UP
With our vibes high we now begin our warm up starting with Surya
Namaskar (Sun Salutations) and leg raises followed by relaxation.
3. ASANA (posture)
Sivananda works with a set of twelve asanas throughout classes and the art of mastering these postures first before variations and adaptions are then introduced.
We will be focusing on 10 of these postures during our first class, 11
during our second class and the full 12 for our third class. Some
asanas will have preparatory exercises to build students towards the
final posture and some are coupled with counter-poses and the
opportunity to explore coming in and out of the asanas. After many of the postures there is ample time spent in relaxation to fully absorb the many benefits to the physical, mental and astral bodies.
4. FINAL RELAXATION/SAVASANA
After the exploration of asanas the class will wind down with a full
savasana and additional mantra sound healing to leave you in a state of ease and nourished alignment.
Any and all questions are welcomed and this class is accessible to all abilities of yoga practitioners as assistance and modifications will be given. No experience or knowledge of Sivananda is required, just
curiosity and the willingness to seek and fully surrender.
It is suggested that in order to make the most of the introduction and
integration of the asanas throughout the course that your own practice is continued between classes.
About Pippi:
Pippi Jane is a Yoga Instructor, Actor, Writer, Singer and
Dancer who lives and breathes her craft.
Originally from the beautiful and remote Lake Okareka in the
Lake District of Rotorua she has a profound love of nature and
outdoor pursuits.
Pippi completed a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts –
Acting Major at Unitec New Zealand in 2009 and has been
working in the industry since.
During her training at drama school, yoga was a compulsory
part of the curriculum and where the innate passion spawned;
having healed a chronic injury through her practice and
developing a deep appreciation for the mental and spiritual gifts
of yoga on and off the mat.
For Pippi, yoga is more than just the asana.
It is the integration of non-reaction, the full yogic breath, being
mindful in the moment, cultivating compassion and the ability to
live in a state of ease and non-attachment even in times of
turmoil. The art of being a student and dwelling in a state of
authentic curiosity for a lifetime.
Through her yogic journey, Pippi’s spirit transformed from a
tumultuous place of comparison and shame to a safe-haven of
acceptance, gratitude and quiet strength and observation.
In 2013 Pippi travelled to India to live in Sivananda Kutir
Ashram in the foothills of the Himilayas and completed her
Yoga Teacher Training in the Sivananda lineage.
She teaches various styles of yoga from Vinyasa Flow to Yin
but ultimately adores the emphasis of relaxation, meditation,
mantra, proper breathing, and simple surrender that
Classical/Hatha yoga encompasses, allowing us to fully soak in
the benefits and reap the rewards of our practice in all aspects
of every-day life.
